10:30 AM Rome Walking Tour
We’ll start the walking tour in Piazza Navona Square, famous for many things over its 2000 year history. Today it is where caffes set around the piazza serve folks enjoying the view. With two of Bernini’s most famous sculptures this is an absolutely beautiful location to begin our morning. The gorgeous Piazza Navona was built on the ruins of the Domitian’s Circus and is adorned by the famous Fountain of the Four Rivers, masterpiece of Gian Lorenzo Bernini in 1651. Then we’ll continue through Rome’s historic center including the Pantheon (meaning “Temple of all the Gods”), a building in Rome which was originally built as a temple to the seven deities of the seven planets in the state religion of Ancient Rome. It is the best preserved of all ancient Roman buildings. Finally this guided tour goes on to the Trevi Fountain, a baroque jewel, and to Piazza di Spagna where the widest staircase in the world is located and where at the bottom is the famous fountain “la Barcaccia” by Pietro Bernini.
