13-Day Rome, Florence Venice with Southern Italy and Northern Italy Tour Daily Itinerary
Get ready for a 13-day trip through Italy! This tour is all about diving into the history of both Southern and Northern regions. It kicks off in Rome, where you’ll explore places like the Colosseum with a guide, and you can add an optional visit to the Vatican Museums.
Then, the journey takes you to the awesome Sorrento Coast, with a lunch stop at a family-owned pasta factory along the way. You’ll jump on a boat for a ride to the beautiful Isle of Capri, where you can shop at the fancy boutiques and relax in outdoor cafes. On the way north you’ll explore the ruins of Pompeii.
Florence is up next with its Renaissance treasures. Don’t miss the stop at a Tuscan winery for some delicious treats on the way to Venice.
Venice comes next, full of canals and historic spots. You’ll even take a boat ride to Murano Island to watch a glass-blowing show. The tour wraps up in the lovely town of Stresa in the Italian Lakes District, right by beautiful Lake Maggiore.

DAY 2: ROME, ITALY – TOUR BEGINS
Arrive in Rome and join your fellow travelers for a special welcome dinner featuring regional delicacies and Italian wines.

DAY 3: ROME – CLASSICAL ROME CITY TOUR
Set out on a long walking tour of Rome. Your guide tells the story of the Colosseum during a visit inside, then you continue through the Renaissance quarter to the Pantheon and Piazza Navona with its Baroque fountains. The evening is free. The Monti neighborhood, with its small shops and local restaurants, is a good choice.

DAY 4: ROME
Enjoy a full day at leisure to explore Rome’s cultural treasures independently. Your tour manager will be on hand to offer suggestions. Perhaps a trip to Vatican City, with an optional tour to the Vatican Museums and St. Peter’s Basilica, will be on your personal sightseeing list. This evening there is an optional food tour of the Trastevere district.

DAY 5: ROME – GRAGNANO – SORRENTO
Travel south toward the Bay of Naples, stopping in Gragnano for lunch and a visit to a pasta factory. Continue to the resort town of Sorrento for free time to explore before settling in for two nights at a hotel in Sorrento or along its coast.

DAY 6: SORRENTO COAST – ISLE OF CAPRI – SORRENTO COAST
A scenic boat ride* brings you to the enchanting Isle of Capri. A panoramic cruise* takes you past the cliffs, sea caves and Faraglioni rocks. Spend time in Capri town with its world-famous piazzetta, and explore this island paradise of chic boutiques, lush vegetation and outdoor cafes before returning to the mainland for a free evening.

DAY 7: SORRENTO COAST – POMPEII – FLORENCE
Start the day in Pompeii, where you choose between a leisurely tour of the highlights or a faster-paced visit that also reaches the outer parts of the site. Then relax on the coach as you travel to Tuscany and its vineyards and olive groves. Arrive in Florence, the “Cradle of the Italian Renaissance,” late in the afternoon and stroll to dinner at a local restaurant.

DAY 8: FLORENCE
A guided walking tour of Florence highlights the cathedral dome, the Gates of Paradise on the Baptistery of St. John, and Piazza della Signoria with its imposing Palazzo Vecchio. The rest of the day is free. There is an optional Tuscan Feast excursion with an after-hours visit to the Certosa monastery and dinner at a Tuscan restaurant.

DAY 9: FLORENCE – PISA – VENICE
Visit the ancient maritime Republic of Pisa to discover the Piazza Dei Miracoli, the Duomo (Cathedral) and the famous Leaning Tower. A special stop is made at a Tuscan winery and farm to enjoy lunch and sample local wines and specialties. Next, cross the Apennines Mountains en route to Venice where 117 islands are connected by a latticework of 150 canals and 400 bridges.

DAY 10: VENICE – MURANO ISLAND – VENICE
Embark on a boat trip* (weather permitting) to Murano Island for a glass-blowing demonstration. Back in Venice, a local expert leads you through the Castello district to St. Mark’s Square, where you can admire the Basilica and the Doge’s Palace. The remainder of the day is at leisure, with an optional gondola cruise available.

DAY 11: VENICE – VERONA – STRESA
Depart Venice for Verona to stroll the streets that were the backdrop for Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.
Afterward, travel to the Italian Lakes district. Arrive in the resort town of Stresa on the breathtaking Lake Maggiore. Admire the beautiful views of Lago Maggiore, your home for the next two nights.
