The Italian region of Veneto, in northeastern Italy, is most famous for those who want to go sightseeing in Venice. Travelers who experience the entire Veneto region experience northern Italy’s rich culture and history. From the high peaks of the Alps and Dolomites mountains, to Lake Garda, the Po River, down to sea level along the coast and Venice, Veneto has something for all types of travelers. The Veneto is one of the most productive wine producing regions in Italy. Although the region produces more red wine than white wine, it is most famous for its Prosecco and Soave wines.

Veneto Location

Veneto is located in north eastern Italy. It is at the top of the Adriatic Sea.

South of Veneto is Emilia Romagna.

West of Veneto is Lombardy.

Northwest of Veneto is Trentino-Alto Adige/South Tyrol.

Northeast of Veneto is Friuli-Venezia Giulia.

Veneto Sightseeing Highlights

Once the heartland of the Venetian Republic, Veneto is today among the wealthiest, most developed and industrialized regions of Italy. Having one of the country’s richest historical, natural, artistic, cultural, musical and culinary heritages, it is the most visited region of Italy.

Besides Italian, most inhabitants also speak Venetian. Having been for a long period in history a land of mass emigration, Veneto is today one of the greatest immigrant-receiving regions in the country.

The Veneto region’s capital and largest city is Venice. Among the many beautiful vacation destinations in the Veneto region are the towns of Padua, Verona, and Vicenza.

Bibione

Bibione is a beach town with about 2,500 people, located on a pretty peninsula on the upper Adriatic Sea.

Bibione’s peninsula is about 8 miles long. On the peninsula are four cool beach towns: Bibione Spiaggia, Lido dei Pini, Bibione Pineda, and Lido del Sole.

\Each place has its own special vibe, but Bibione Spiaggia is the most lively. It has a fun promenade, great hotels, lots of restaurants, bars, and shops, making it a perfect holiday spot.

Lido dei Pini, Lido del Sole, and Bibione Pineda are quieter but still fun and great for vacations.

Chioggia

Chioggia is an island located at the southern end of the Venice Lagoon, about 20 miles from Venice. The town includes canals like Venice. It is popular Italy summer vacation destination because of its popular beach Sottomarina.

Points of interest in Chioggia include its Duomo and belltower, Chiesa di San Domenico, and Chiesa di San Giacomo Apostolo. Most of the sights are located right along its main street Corso del Popolo.

Jesolo

Jesolo is a popular northern Italian beach town. It is also a great base for exploring Venice, as it’s only about an hour’s drive away. You can take a ferry from nearby Punta Sabbioni to reach Venice by boat.

Jesolo is known for its long sandy beaches and vibrant holiday atmosphere. Its promenade called Via Bafile, is one of the longest pedestrian streets in Europe. It’s filled with shops, cafes, restaurants, and gelato shops. In the evening, it becomes a bustling place for a leisurely stroll.main street – the passeggiata.

The main beach is Lido di Jesolo. It is about 10 miles along the Adriatic Sea. The beach is known for its wide area of golden sand. Its shallow water makes it a perfect beach for families with kids.

The beach is also known for its Blue Flag status. This determination is for its cleanliness, environmental standards, and safety.

Along the beach there are various beach clubs. They offer sunbeds, umbrellas, and other amenities. Many also have bars and restaurants.

The beach offers water sports like windsurfing, jet skiing, and paddleboarding. There are also beach volleyball courts and playgrounds for kids.

There is also a lot to do in the town for families with children. A popular destination is one Italy’s most famous waterparks, Aqualandia. There is also the Sealike Aquarium.

There is also plenty of nightlife. And during the summer Jesolo hosts various events, including beach concerts, festivals, and sports competitions, adding to the lively atmosphere.

Jesolo is a perfect destination for a fun and relaxing beach holiday, offering a mix of leisure, activities, and entertainment.

Padua Sightseeing

Padua is a cultural center just outside Venice. It boasts that it is one of the oldest city’s in Europe, dating back to the Trojan War.

Padua is the home of two very important artistic masterpieces: The Scrovegni Chapel where Giotto’s Last Judgement masterpiece is found. This is one of the most important pieces of art in Italy and in all Western art. Also in Padua in front of the Basilica of St Anthony is Donatello’s bronze horse. The city is often associated with St Anthony the 13th century Franciscan priest who makes miracles come true and who people pray for good health.

Many Venetians moved out to Padua to build their palaces and today they are evident in the streets.

Padua is a young and dynamic city where students make up over a quarter of its population. Bo University is located in Padua. This university, founded around 1250, attracts young people from around Europe giving the city a youthfulness that is fun.

The city is also noted for its pleasant canals and fine architecture.

The Botanical Garden of Padua is the first botanic garden in the world founded in 1524.

Prato della Valle is the largest square in the city. It is where markets have taken place since Roman times. Today it is a gathering place for students and families. Concerts draw thousands of people. The statues were erected in the 19th century and pay tribute to people important to its cultural history.

Passo Fedaia

Located in the Dolomites this mountain pass may be best known from the Giro d’Italia. It lies at the northern base of the Marmolada, the highest peak in the region and the Dolomiti. It is known for its beauty, for Lago Fedaia.

Po River Delta

The most recent part of the delta, which projects into the Adriatic between Chioggia and Comacchio, contains channels that actually connect to the Adriatic and on that account is called the active delta by the park authorities, as opposed to the fossil delta, which contains channels that no longer connect the Po to the Adriatic (but once did).

The Po River provides the only option for river cruising in Italy.

Venice Sightseeing

The most popular sightseeing destination in the region of Veneto is Venice. Venice is known for its many canals with gorgeous palazzi lining the way for gondolas to glide along to St Mark’s Square. Verona Sightseeing

There is much more to the Veneto outside of Venice. Verona a refined and elegant city. It has maintained its rich cultural past from the ancient Romans, Medieval and Renaissance periods. Verona was made famous by Shakespeare in Romeo and Juliet. And it is Romantic. When you walk through the city you’ll understand why it as chosen as the setting of the most romantic story written.

Verona is also a beautiful town full of world class shopping. It has some of the best ancient Roman ruins, including an ancient Roman Colosseum theater, known as the Arena. The Arena was built in the first century. It is better preserved than Rome’s Colosseum. Today the Verona Arena hosts performances. Every summer opera lovers from around the world flock to Verona for its Opera Festival under the stars in Verona’s Arena. The summer concert season is packed with events.

The Arena is right across from Piazza Bra. There you can enjoy peace in the center park. Piazza Bra is surrounded by restaurants and shops.  The Castel Vecchio museum has works from the middle ages to the 18th century and is a journey through artist history of Verona.

Vicenza Sightseeing

Vicenza is another rich city located in the Veneto region. The city is known for its gold, textiles, and for sightseeing the Palladian Villas, which are protected by UNESCO World Heritage Site designation.
