Lake Maggiore
THE BORROMEAN ISLANDS
Don’t miss a chance to see the three Borromean Islands – Isola Bella, Isola Madre and Isola dei Pescatori, which lie in a wide gulf surrounded by mountains on the western side of Lake Maggiore. The islands take their name from the aristocratic Borromean family who owned the land in the 16th and 17th centuries and each island offers a very different experience. After boarding the boat in Baveno you will first cruise around Isola Madre, with its exotic and lush gardens which almost totally cover the island. Proceed to Isola Bella, which is perhaps the most well-known of the islands. Here is located the Palazzo which offers visitors an elegant setting and contains priceless works of art. Wander around the stunning gardens, which form an extraordinary flowering monument laid out over a series of ornate and overlapping terraces. Embark again on the boat and cruise around Isola dei Pescatori before reaching Stresa. A stop will be made here to give you time to wander around. Cruise back to the mainland.
Transportation: Transportation is provided with this excursion.
DINNER ON PESCATORI ISLAND
There’s no better way to get to know this lovely Borromean island of Isola dei Pescatori than by dining in one of the picturesque restaurants dating from 1905. Already in the year ‘900 there was a small tavern, where the locals met, with the men narrating their fishing adventures and the women dedicating themselves to the darning of the nets. In time the tavern was extended and nowadays the restaurant has a large room with a fireplace and also a lovely big terrace which stretches towards the lake. You will be taken to the island by boat from the mainland to enjoy a three course dinner with local specialties plus wine, mineral water and coffee. At the end of the evening return to the mainland by boat.
Verona
MAGIC OF VERONA
Verona is one of the main tourist destinations in northern Italy due to its artistic heritage and shows and operas which are often held in the beautiful ancient amphitheatre built by the Romans – the Arena. The city has been awarded World Heritage Site status because of its architecture and urban structure. On the sightseeing tour among the stops is one to this fascinating city the local guide will take you first on a panoramic drive with the coach to see the Scaliger Bridge and Castle, the Roman Gavi-arch, the Roman city gate, Roman bridge and theatre and various churches. Then disembark from the coach and proceed on foot through the historical city centre to include sites such as Romeo and Julet’s balcony, and Piazza Bra with the beautiful Arena.
