The islands take their name from the aristocratic Borromean family who owned the land in the 16th and 17th centuries and each island offers a very different experience.
After boarding the boat in Baveno you will first cruise around Isola Madre, with its exotic and lush gardens which almost totally cover the island. Then proceed to Isola Bella, which is perhaps the most well-known of the islands. Here is located the Palazzo, which offers visitors an elegant setting and contains priceless works of art. Wander around the stunning gardens, which form an extraordinary flowering monument laid out over a series of ornate and overlapping terraces.
Cruise back to the mainland. Transportation is provided with this excursion.

Italian Lakes Tour Itinerary
This vacation to Northern Italy’s Italian Lakes begins in Milan. Here you’ll see the Duomo. From Milan you’ll travel to Verona, with a stop in the spa town of Sirmione on Lake Garda. Located at the foot of the southern Alps from here you’ll enjoy exquisite lake views. In Verona enjoy strolling among its ancient Roman architecture, great shopping, and is where Romeo and Juliet’s balcony is located. After two overnights in Verona the tour continues on to Lake Como. And finally reach Lake Maggiore where you’ll spend the final two nights in Stresa.
Day 1 Depart the United States for your Italian Lakes tour.
Day 2 Arrive in Milan, Italy
Check into your hotel. The rest of the day is free for you to see some of Milan. Tonight, meet your Tour Director and fellow travelers.
Day 3 Milan – Sirmione (Lake Garda) – Verona
Start the day with an orientation tour of Milan, stopping to admire the famous gothic-style Duomo. Catch the first glimpses of Lake Garda as you stop in Sirmione, the picturesque spa town on the south shore of Lake Garda. Stroll among the many shops and ice cream parlors that line the narrow cobblestone streets. Among its highlights, a medieval castle, the famous Roman villa and grottoes of Catullo. Afterward continue on to Verona where you will spend the evening in Verona, the “city of love”.

Day 4 Verona
In the morning, a Local Guide take you through the old cobblestone streets of the old part of Verona telling you the stories behind the old buildings and how this beautiful city inspired Shakespeare. Spend the afternoon shopping, visiting, or taking a stroll along the Adige River banks, or take advantage of the optional excursion.

Day 5 Verona – Lake Como
This morning, say goodbye to the romantic city of Verona and continue to fascinating Lake Como, where you’ll spend two nights. Stroll around the narrow alleys of the city center and the lungolago and maybe taste some fabulous local gelato.

Day 6 Lake Como. Excursion to Bellagio
Inspiring everyone from Roman senators and great composers to Hollywood actors, Como is the romantic image of the lakes, its cobalt-blue waters lined with magnificent mountains, lush gardens, and grand villas.
Take the ferry boat around Lake Como to the lakeside towns. Here you’ll enjoy breathing the fresh mountain air while your eyes will feast on the natural beauty. Join the included boat trip to Bellagio, which occupies one of the most scenic positions in all of Italy.

Day 7 Lake Como–Lugano, Switzerland–Lake Maggiore, Italy
Today leave Lake Como and cross the border into Switzerland, on the way to enchanting Lake Maggiore. Along the way enjoy excursion to beautiful Lake Lugano, and visit the stylish city that bears its name, Lugano. There enjoy a stroll along the lakeside promenade, window shop on refined Via Nassa, or sip an espresso on the Piazza Riforma.
Afterward, leave Switzerland and cross back into Italy, driving to Lake Maggiore to reach your accommodation in the late afternoon. Once you reach Lake Maggiore, you may choose to join an optional tour.

Optional Lake MaggioreDay 8 Lake Maggiore
Set between Piedmont, Lombardy, and Switzerland, Lake Maggiore is a paradise of crystal waters, backed by towering mountains and surrounded by lush countryside. The day is yours to relax or to enjoy some of the many activities available around the lake. Maybe join an optional boat trip to the Borromean Islands, with time to visit the extravagant Borromeo Palace, built like a ship anchored just off the shoreline.
