Three Nights in Palermo

Three nights in Palermo gave us three days to explore the city. We strolled around the magnificent palazzi, fountains, and a world renowned opera house. Moreover the seaside was very special!

We stayed in a nice older hotel but beautifully maintained – a beautiful old Palazzo in a very convenient location. Our room was large with in a big comfortable bed, TV with international channels, and a large bathroom with big, tiled shower.

Our room did not include breakfast but there were plenty of wonderful espresso and dolce cafés right near us. We ate at wonderful cafes and restaurants with typical Palermo dishes and lots of fish.

We explored a city with lots to see – the open ocean, gorgeous churches, and palazzi. Above all is one of the world’s oldest, biggest and prettiest opera houses. Named Teatro Massimo – this theater premiered many of the greatest Italian composers’ works including those if Giuseppe Verdi.

Teatro Massimo – A Palermo Sightseeing Highlights

If you visit Palermo you must take the opportunity to experience opera in one of the world’s most magnificent and famous theaters. But be sure to purchase seats that have straight on views of the stage. The theater design is in horse shoe shape for acoustic purposes. As a result seats in the balcony on right and left sides obstruct a full view of the stage. Therefore buy what are called “orchestra seats”, which are centered on the floor of the theater.

Teatro Massimo is on a main street named Via Marqueda which has lots of foot traffic, many stores for shopping, restaurants, cafes, bars and entertainment of all kinds – night and day. It’s a great walking city with lots to see.

Try to arrange your three nights in Palermo to include a Saturday. Then visit any of the several farmers markets on Saturdays. It has cooked food as well as raw produce, fresh fish, poultry and red meat.

Palermo is filled with many beautiful churches, museums, castles, and street entertainment everywhere. It is a beautiful and entertaining city with lots of outdoor “action”.
