Day 3: Cefalu Tour – $59 per person

Cefalù dates bak to the Magna Grecia era in Sicily around 400 B.C. It also has important Medieval roots. You’ll visit the Norman cathedral that dates back to the 12th century. You’ll also visit the Fisherman Village.

Day 7: Siracusa Tour – $99 per person

Siracusa or Syracuse was considered one of the most beautiful of all ancient Greek cities. After the ancient Greeks the Ancient Romans left their mark here. You’ll visit the archaeological park, the Roman amphitheater, and its old quarter, also known as Città Vecchia or “Old City” a UNESCO World Heritage Site, located on the island of Ortygia. DAY 1, Saturday – Fly from the United States to Sicily

Typically flights to Italy from the United States will be overnight. If you are coming from the Asia-pacific or Europe please note the tour begins in Sicily on Sunday, day 2. On board the plane relax with entertainment while dinner and breakfast are served.

DAY 2, Sunday – Arrive in Palermo

Upon arrival in Sicily the Best of Sicily tour package with airfare includes airport transfer to Palermo hotel. Enjoy the rest of the day independently. This evening there is a cocktail party and dinner get together.  You’ll meet your tour manager and accompanying guests. After you will enjoy your first authentic Sicilian dinner.

DAY 3, Monday – Tour to Monreale to visit Cathedral & Tour of Palermo’s Old City

Today you’ll tour Monreale and Palermo. To begin the day you’ll tour the Norman Cathedral in Monreale. The mosaics in this cathedral from the Byzantine era draw travelers from all over the world. After the tour continues with a visit to Palermo’s Old City. In Palermo you will see more Norman architecture.  The Cathedral and Palace are among the Palermo sightseeing highlights. This afternoon you have time to stroll around Palermo independently. You may also join an optional tour to Cefalu.

DAY 4, Tuesday – Sicily Tour continues from Palermo to Agrigento

From Palermo you’ll travel around Sicily’s northwest coast to Erice and Agrigento. The ancient Greek Temple of Segesta is viewed along the way. This is one of the best preserved ancient Greek Temples. It was built around 450 BC. Today, 2500 years later it stands perfectly. After the ancient Greek town of Erice you’ll then continue along the coast to Marsala. Marsala wine may be its most famous export.  You’ll enjoy a culinary treat that includes a Marsala wine tasting. You’ll also see Marsala’s windmills and salt mines. Then continue to the Valley of Temples in Agrigento where you will stay the night.

DAY 5, Wednesday – Valley of the Temples and Piazza Armerina Tours

Today wake up among the Temples in the ancient Greek Valley of the Temples. During the Magna Grecia era Sicily was the center of ancient Greek civilization. The Valley of the Temples in Agrigento is the site of multiple ancient Greek Temples. After the tour of the Valley of the Temples you’ll travel to Piazza Armerina. This is a unique town in Sicily. It is noted for its Norman and Gothic architecture. You’ll tour the Roman mosaics in the Villa Romana del Casale. After the Sicily tour continues on the the gorgeous coastal town of Taormina. Taormina is a charming town located in the hills above the Mediterranean sea. It has been famous among tourists for thousands of years. DAY 6, Thursday – Mount Etna & Taormina Tour

Today you’ll visit Europe’s most active and highest Volcano Mount Etna. You may climb around the Silvestri Craters. There on the mountain you’ll explore the volcanic landscape of lava. After trekking around Mount Etna you’ll return to Taormina.  Your Taormina tour will begin with a visit to the Greek Theater. This authentic ancient Greek amphitheater is built to take in the glorious view of Mt Etna and the Sicilian countryside. DAY 8, Saturday – Fly from Sicily to Venice

This morning, depart for your early flight to Venice. Arrive in Venice and transfer to your hotel. The remainder of the day is at leisure in this magical city built over a hundred small islands and connected by 400 bridges. Tonight, attend a meeting at approximately 6 PM (exact time will be advised on tour arrival day) with your new Tour Manager. Then, savor dinner together with your fellow travelers

DAY 9, Sunday – Tour of Venice

This morning you’ll take a boat ride across the Venice lagoon to the Island of Murano. It is known for the glass blowing artists making vases, chandeliers, bowls, all made of glass and colored. There you will see the glass blowing artists practice their craft. Then you’ll cross the Venice lagoon again to visit St. Mark’s Square. St Mark’s Square is the center of Venice. There you’ll begin your guided tour of Venice. St Mark’s Square is surrounded by architectural treasures.  St. Mark’s Basilica and the Doge’s Palace are testaments to Venice’s wealth. The Bridge of Sigh’s to its justice. Today romantic lovers visit Venice to have a kiss under the bridge in a gondola. Your tour guide will point out the important architectural features and share more of the history of the Doge and his buildings with you.  After the Venice walking tour you have the rest of the day to enjoy Venice sightseeing independently. DAY 10, Monday – Travel from Venice to Florence with Pisa Tour

Today you will leave Venice to drive across the Italian peninsula to Florence.  Along the way you’ll travel across three Italian regions. The Veneto and Emilia Romagna are northern Italian regions.  And you’ll cross the central Italian region Tuscany. In Tuscany, which is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful regions in Italy, you’ll visit Pisa. Here in the Piazza dei Miracoli, the Field of Miracles, the Romanesque and Gothic architecture impresses all visitors. And of course The Leaning Tower of Pisa is a Tuscany sightseeing highlight. This piazza’s design and architectural style makes it popular with photographers. After touring Pisa the travel day continues to an agriturismo in the Tuscan countryside. Known as an agriturismo, your vacation includes an authentic culinary tasting.  Enjoy the famous Tuscan olives, wines, cheeses, and meats. DAY 11, Tuesday – Florence City Tour

This morning you’ll wake up in the Renaissance city Florence. The morning walking tour begins in Florence’s center. The Duomo, Baptistry and Clock Tower are among the Florence sightseeing highlights that you will tour. You’ll see Brunelleschi’s Dome. Sitting atop the Florence Cathedral it is a testament to man’s ingenuity during the Renaissance. Across from the Duomo is the Florence Baptistry. There you’ll see the famous golden doors called “Gates of Paradise” by Ghiberti. Located next to the Duomo and Baptistry is the Campanile, the clock tower, designed by the great Giotto. After taking time here in this beautiful piazza the walking tour continues to Signoria Square and the famous Ponte Vecchio. This afternoon in Florence you have free time to stroll around and even shop.  Florence is famous for its gold jewelry artisans and leather-making. This evening enjoy an authentic evening in Tuscany with dinner.

DAY 12, Wednesday – Tour Assisi on the way to Rome

This morning you’ll travel from Florence to Rome. This route will cover three central Italian regions: Tuscany, Umbria and Lazio.  Along the way you’ll visit the Umbrian town of Assisi. This is a classic medieval town. It is an important site because it is where the Basilica of St. Francis is located. You’ll tour the basilica and learn about Giotto’s frescoes that depict the life of St Francis. After Assisi your tour of Italy’s mainland continues on to Rome.

DAY 13, Thursday – Guided Tour to Vatican City includes Museum & Sistine Chapel

Wake up in Rome ready to visit the Vatican Museum. Here you’ll tour one of the greatest collections of art in the world. The museum may be best known for the Sistine Chapel. The museum includes works and frescoes by art history’s masters.  After the Vatican museum tour you’ll visit St Peter’s Basilica. Michelangelo’s Pieta may be the most famous sculpture inside St Peter’s Basilica. It is considered to be the finest sculpture ever created. Bernini is also a very important contributor to St Peter’s Basilica. Don’t miss Bernini’s altar and sculptures inside the basilica. Outside in St Peter’s square Bernini designed the famous colonnade. This afternoon in Rome is free to be enjoyed on your own.
