This escorted Italy tour explores Italy’s cultural gems: the regions of Tuscany and Umbria. You’ll visit the charming and authentic villages of these two beautiful regions.
In Tuscany, you’ll visit the highlights including Florence and Siena. Here you’ll explore Tuscany’s history from its Etruscan founders right through Medieval times to the Renaissance.
In Umbria, you’ll dive into the region’s long and storied history that shaped the Italic peninsula for the last three thousand years. Known as Italy’s “Green Heart” Umbria is full of charming medieval towns. In Umbria, your home is in the beautiful town of Spoleto.
Day 1 – Overnight Flight
Board your overnight flight to the Italian capital city of Rome.
Day 2 – Rome, Italy – Tour Begins
Today you’ll arrive in Rome the Eternal City. Here you’ll meet your fellow travelers. This evening you’ll enjoy an authentic Roman welcome dinner in a local Roman restaurant. Dinner will include authentic Italian food, which will prepare you for touring Tuscany and Umbria.

Day 3 – Rome to Orvieto
Today you’ll travel from Rome to the Orvieto. Orvieto was originally founded by the Etruscans. Tuscany is named after these ancient people, who three-thousand years literally invented what is today known as “la dolce vita” – “the sweet life.” The Etruscan culture is at the root of Western Civilization. Your Tuscany and Umbria tour is an exploration of this important ancient yet highly sophisticated culture. Today Orvieto is most notable for its location on the table-top of a big hill. There its Gothic Cathedral houses a Signorelli fresco. Take time for a leisurely lunch or explore this town on your own. For the next four nights, your accommodations are in a palace in the pristine Umbrian hill town of Trevi, near Perugia and Assisi

Day 4 – Umbria – Spoleto – Cooking Class – Umbria
Embark on a guided walking tour of historic Spoleto. See medieval palaces, the ornate Duomo of Santa Maria Assunta, and the magnificent Ponte delle Torri, an aqueduct dating back to the 13th century. Enjoy free time to peruse the town’s shops and cafés.
Later you’ll pay a visit to a local restaurant where you’ll enjoy a hands-on Umbrian cooking lesson and eat the fruits of your labor.

Day 5 – Umbria – Assisi
Today you’ll travel to Assisi. There you’ll be escorted on a walking tour of the medieval town. Learn about the town’s patron St. Francis Assisi. Visit the Basilica of St. Francis.

Day 6 – Umbria to Tuscany
Leave Umbria for the villages of Tuscany, nestled among the vineyards and olive groves of the Val d’Orcia region. Today you’ll visit two UNESCO world heritage sites; the Val d’Orca area and Pienze.
First, in Val d’Orca tour a winery’s estate and cellar before indulging in an authentic Tuscan lunch. Created by the on-site chef, this meal is expertly paired with the vineyard’s very own wines. Then, end your day in Pienza, a Renaissance village where flowers and plants adorn the cobblestone streets.

Day 7 – Tuscany visit Orcia Valley and Bagno Vignoni
Journey through the Orcia Valley’s rolling hills on your way to the 12th-century Abbey of Sant’Antimo. Continue on to the unique hamlet of Bagno Vignoni, whose central piazza is filled with thermal water. Taste the flavors of the region at a local pecorino cheese farm. Snack on some of the cheesemaker’s creations before returning to Pienza for an afternoon at leisure. Maybe you’ll explore the countryside along one of the many white roads that cut through the farmland.

Day 8 – Travel from Pienza to Siena and Chianti Region
Take a guided walking tour through Siena, delving into the local history as you learn about the world-renowned Palio Horse Race. An afternoon drive through Tuscany’s Chianti Region takes you to the restored Tuscan villa where your hotel is located.

Day 9 – Visit Florence
Explore Florence, the “Cradle of the Renaissance,” with a local expert on foot. Wander along the glittering storefronts on the Ponte Vecchio, where gold shops adorn the only Florentine bridge to survive WWII. You’ll also take in the Palazzo Vecchio, the Piazza della Signoria, and Santa Croce. Take some time on your own to explore the city’s seemingly endless treasures, both historic and modern. Return to your Tuscan villa in the evening.

Day 10 – San Gimignano
This morning choose how to explore Tuscany. You may embark in search of the elusive truffle and sample your finds. Alternatively, explore the Tuscan countryside on an ATV adventure along winding dirt roads, followed with a taste of truffle bruschetta.
This afternoon the tour includes an excursion to San Gimignano. The 13th-century medieval towers stand tall over the surrounding vineyards, giving its name “the medieval Manhattan”.
This evening enjoy an authentic dinner with your fellow travelers for a farewell dinner of Tuscan specialties.
