Travel + Leisure released its 15th annual “It List,” which includes its selections of top rated new Italy hotels.
The top rated new hotels in Italy total six properties. These include three luxury hotels located in southern Italy, two located in northern Italy, and one in Rome. The London-based Rocco Forte Hotel company represents three of the best new Italy hotels on the list.
Rome
Rome boasts many top rated hotels because of their luxury accommodations and fine food.
Rocco Forte Hotel Hotel de la Ville, Rome, Italy
Rocco Forte Hotel De La Ville is located in an 18th-century palazzo that is now an elegant hideaway. It is located just above the Spanish Steps. From there guests enjoy sky-high views over Via Sistina and Rome’s rooftops. The hotel amenities include three restaurants, a spa, and elegant 17th-century style rooms.
The design took inspiration from the era of the Grand European Tour. The result is art-filled spaces that blend plush contemporary decor with classical influences. The 104 rooms and suites are some of the most spacious in Rome.

Southern Italy
Southern Italy’s regions Puglia and Sicily continue attract more visitors each year. Making the Travel + Leisure top rated Italy hotels for 2020 list are two new hotels in southern Italy opened by The Rocco Forte Hotel company. One is located in the Puglia region and the other in Sicily. The other top rated southern Italy hotel is located on the island if Ischia (where my maternal grandfather’s family is from before immigrating to Providence, RI), which is off the coast of Naples.
Mezzatorre Hotel and Thermal Spa, Ischia
The 57-room Hotel Mezzatorre forms part of Pellicano Hotels collection. The property was a 16th-century watchtower. The location is away from any action making for the perfect secluded vacation getaway. There are two restaurants; one located on the beach. Water features include a thermal spa, which the island is famous since Roman times, and a pool overlooking the rocky beach.
Masseria Torre Maizza, a Rocco Forte Hotel, Puglia
The property is set in the charming area of Savelleteri di Fasano. It is located along the Adriatic coast and surrounded by ancient olive groves. The resort is an original farmhouse dating back to the 16th century. The resort features 40 lavish suites all with stunning views of the Apulian countryside, including the addition of the magnificent two-bedroom Torre Suite, located on the top floor of the masseria’s original tower. Amenities include a 20-meter pool, a 9-hole executive golf course, access to a private beach club, fitness center and spa treatments.
a.d. 1768 Boutique Hotel, Sicily
Located in the middle of the Sicilian city of Ragusa, the hotel offers a picturesque view of the Piazza del Duomo in the historic city center. The hotel is formerly a palazzo with frescoes, antiques and exquisite contemporary touches. There are seven rooms and three suites.
Out of the six best new Italy hotels this one is a surprise because of its lack of luxury amenities. Nevertheless, for those on a Sicily vacation and wanting to visit Ragusa it is a great hotel idea.
Northern Italy
Casa Maria Luigia, Modena
How to describe a guesthouse whose proprietor is a Michelin 3-star chef…. Massimo Bottura. Bottura won the World’s Best Restaurants Award twice with his nearby Osteria Francescana (2017 and 2018). He is also behind the stove here.
The couple Lara Gilmore and Massimo Bottura converted the property into an exclusive albergo harboring art and a gourmet restaurant. There are 12 rooms. As such, Casa Maria Luigia is a destination for food and art lovers who will be spoiled. The property includes a tennis court, lovely pond, and magical gardens, for instance. While exploring all that the magical property offers it may hard to venture off to explore Modena too!
The main attraction is the dining experience, which is called Francescana at Maria Luigia. It is located in the former carriage house of the estate. Those who stay at Casa Maria Luigia should definitely book the 9-course degustation menu. There is no question this is a top rated Italy hotel that is also a top rated Italy vacation experience!
St. Regis Venice, Venice
Gorgeous, modern hotel in one of the most picture perfect settings Venice has to offer. Located on the Grand Canal with beautiful views. High end shopping is located around the hotel.
