Best Espresso Maker in Rome

A pleasure to wake up on a Saturday morning in Rome is to leisurely stroll around the ancient historic center’s cobblestoned streets looking for the best espresso maker.

With the doors around me opening by the Roman boutique owners readying for the day I like to follow my nose letting it lead me to the source of the smell of espresso wafting in the air. And it is there where I’ll have my day’s first espresso, a macchiato to get things going.

Sant’Eustachio and Tazza d’Oro, both within blocks of the Pantheon, hold the perennial bragging rights for best espresso maker in Rome. While sipping my espresso I ponder what makes the best espresso maker the best espresso maker.

Is it that Tazza d’Oro and Sant’Eustachio attract the best espresso makers in Italy? Or is it the mix of or in the roasting of the beans that makes a delicious espresso? And how does the local water impact the best espresso? Or is it the high-performance Italian espresso machines humming like a Ferrari? Or is it the mix of the water, the beans, the espresso maker with the best espresso machine, ?

So many questions that I like to walk a little further to let the thoughts all grind together before indulging in my next espresso, this time opting for the stretto. I’ll stick with the stretto for the rest of my Saturday, including while using my own espresso machine.

It seems to me the secret to a fine Espresso in the home is the espresso machine and the operator. A bad Espresso machine operator equals an espresso full of acidic water.

An espresso done right, an authentic Italian espresso, is an integral part of living La Dolce Vita – secrets that will make you the best espresso maker.

So tell what you think, does the best espresso come from the best espresso machine or the best espresso maker?
