Day 1: Travel to Venice, Italy

Day 2: Venice

Day 3: Venice, Italy

Enjoy your Italy luxury vacation strolling trough the Doge’s Palace, the seat of the main government departments and the residence of the Doge who ruled the Venetian Republic. Lavish frescoes, graceful staircases and gilded stucco work testify to the glory and opulence of this period. One of the finest examples of Byzantine architecture in Venice is St. Mark’s Basilica, once the Doge’s chapel. Wander through vibrant St. Mark’s Square, lined with cafés and perfect for people watching. Day 4: Venice

The lavish Scuola di San Rocco, home to some of the finest works of Renaissance painter Tintoretto, is hidden from the crowds — but not from you. Day 5: Venice/Florence

Today we’ll transfer you by private water taxi from your hotel to Piazzale Roma.  There you will meet your English-speaking driver who will be waiting with his Mercedes to drive you from Venice to Florence. Along the way you could stop in Padova to see Giotto’s masterpieces inside the Scrovegni Chapel. Then stop for lunch in Bologna before continuing to the Renaissance city of Florence. Observe the russet-colored roofs, domed basilica and bustling piazzas in this city that is a paradise for art lovers.

Day 6: Florence

Discover the wonders of Florence, including the iconic Duomo (Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore). It was the largest cathedral in Europe when it was built (13th-15th centuries) and could accommodate 30,000 worshippers. Visit the Galleria dell’Accademia to view Michelangelo’s famous David and see the Church of Santa Croce. The afternoon is at leisure to explore on your own.

Day 7: Florence

Visit the Uffizi Gallery, housing masterpieces, including works by Rembrandt, Raphael, Lippi, Titian and Botticelli. The incomparable collection reveals the development of Florentine art from Gothic to High Renaissance and beyond. View the remarkable exterior of the Palazzo Vecchio, a fortress-like city hall that was begun in 1299 as a meeting place for the heads of the guilds that governed the city. With its massive bulk and towering campanile, it dominates the Piazza della Signoria.

Day 8: Florence/Tuscany/Rome

Today your Italy luxury vacation departs by private car for the unspoiled Tuscan hill towns of Cortona, made famous by Frances Mayes in Under the Tuscan Sun, and Montepulciano, known for its Vino Nobile wines. Day 9: Rome

Visit some of these historic landmarks today, including the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, the Circus Maximus, Arch of Constantine and the Church of San Pietro in Vincoli. Drive along the famous Via Veneto, past the Aurelian Walls, Piazza Barberini and the Trevi Fountain.

Day 10: Rome

A visit to the Vatican includes the Sistine Chapel, painted by Michelangelo from 1508 to 1512 and considered to be one of the most renowned artworks of the High Renaissance period. The frescoes depict scenes from the Old and New Testaments, including the immortal Creation of Adam. Continue to St. Peter’s Basilica, built on the site where Peter the Apostle, thought to be the first pope, was crucified and buried. The balance of the day is at leisure.

Day 11: Rome
