DAY 1 – Depart the USA

Today you will fly across the Atlantic from the United States to Rome, Italy.  Flights that depart from the United States arrive in Italy to meet the tour the following day. If you are flying to Italy from the west coast cities like Portland, Seattle, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Phoenix, San Francisco, San Diego then you may depart early to arrive in Italy the following morning.

DAY 2 – Arrive in Rome

The all-inclusive escorted Italy tour with airfare includes transfers from Rome Fiumicino airport to your accommodations. If you prefer to arrange your own air itinerary to Italy please let us know if you would like us to help you with transfers.  Today is your first day in Italy.  There are no escorted tours of Rome scheduled today. If you arrive early then you have a free day to stroll around Rome’s ancient cobblestones or have a rest.  This evening you will meet your tour director and traveling companions at an orientation and welcome to Italy authentic Roman dinner at a popular local restaurant featuring regional delicacies and fine Italian wines.

DAY 3 – Tour Ancient Rome

This morning in Rome you will tour Ancient Rome. This is where the Roman Forum and Colosseum, among other famous monuments, are located. After the morning tour of Ancient Rome your afternoon is free to stroll around Rome.  You also join an optional tour of the Vatican Museum. This evening there is an optional Rome by Night dinner and tour.

DAY 4 – Rome to Umbria visiting Assisi and Perugia

This morning after breakfast the tour departs Rome and travels north to the region of Umbria. Known as Italy’s green heart, the region is known for its rolling hills and charming tours. The first destination is Assisi, birthplace of St. Francis. Take in the old-world atmosphere on a guided walking tour of the old city, including the Basilica of St. Francis. Then you’re off to medieval Perugia, the historic capital of Umbria. Behold one of the grandest squares in Italy – the Piazza IV Novembre – and delight in the medieval palaces and ornate cathedrals.

DAY 5 – Travel From Umbria to Tuscany: Siena and Florence

Delight in its narrow Gothic streets, magnificent palaces and historic Piazza del Campo. After a walking tour with a local expert, take some time to explore the medieval corners of Siena. DAY 6 – Florence City Tour

This morning you’ll wake up in the Renaissance city Florence. Dduring your cultural tour of Florence enjoy views of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, the Palazzo Vecchio and the Church of Santa Croce. The remainder of the day is at leisure to enjoy this fascinating city on your own. You have time to see the Duomo where Brunelleschi’s Dome, sitting atop the Florence Cathedral, is a testament to man’s ingenuity during the Renaissance. Across from the Duomo is the Florence Baptistry. There you’ll see the famous golden doors called “Gates of Paradise” by Ghiberti. Located next to the Duomo and Baptistry is the Campanile, the clock tower, designed by the great Giotto. Enjoy the afternoon in Florence at leisure.

Day 7 – Florence to Venice 

Today you will leave Florence to drive across the Italian peninsula to Venice.  Along the way you’ll travel three unique Northern Italian regions, Tuscany, Emilia Romagna, and Veneto. Start your day with a visit to a historic winery in the heart of the Chianti region. In the shadow of its 12th-century castle, learn about the winery’s famed Tuscan wines and enjoy a chef-led cooking class. Next, sit back and savor regional delicacies during a delicious lunch. This afternoon, journey through central Italy, crossing the wooded Apennine Mountains toward the Valley of the Po. Enchanting Venice awaits with 117 tiny islands and its latticework of 150 canals and 400 bridges.

DAY 9  –   Venice to Milan

Today you travel to Milan. Later, perhaps you will indulge in some shopping at the “Quadrilatero della Moda,” Milan’s high-fashion district. Continue to Milan Malpensa, which located an hour outside the city center near the airport, where there will be a farewell dinner celebrating the end of an unforgettable trip.

DAY 10  –   Travel Home

Today return home from Milan or extend your trip from Northern Italy.
